Rule One of Houskeeping

Never doubt the stupidity of People!

Yes, this is a harsh but true statement! When people rent a cabin/lodge, they apparently loose some part of their brains while they are driving over. It is like everything they ever learned about staying at another persons house is forgotten.

I just got done cleaning a cabin with a wood stove. Apparently, the guest thought it was a good idea to split firewood inside and on the hardwood floors. Then, of course, pitch got everywhere on the hardwood floors. And we all know how hard pitch is to get off!

Its the small things that guests do that amaze me. Do people who rent these cabins dumb? Or do they not realize what they are doing?

I would really like to know.

As for the pitch, I have been told that peanut butter or mayonnaise will remove it. I will test this out tomorrow and tell you if it works.

Hello To All

Greetings!

The purpose of this blog is to write down all thoughts about my job (housekeeping) and about my very uneventful life (which I am sure will change eventually).

I have never kept up with blogging, even though I did once have a livejournal, but I haven't used that in around two years. So, now that I am out of college, and now back living at home and working the same job I have done since high school, I have a lot of things to think about.

I suppose I should write in a pet peeve of mine: if you are a guest at a cabin with an exact leaving time, such as 11, do leave at that exact time. Although I do leave a window of 15 to 30 minutes for guest to clear off, some do not leave for another hour! If there is a Quickturn that needs to be done, (Quickturn - when one guest leaves and the next one comes in right after that) I, or any other housekeeper, need to clean that place a quick as possible. Most check out times are at 11 and the check in is at 3. But if you are doing two Quickturns where you have two cabins that need to be cleaned during those exact times, life becomes very stressful!

On to another day!
I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday!
